Most installs take between three and six hours depending on hair length, density, braid length and any styling details. We provide a specific time estimate during consultation to ensure enough appointment time.
When installed by an experienced braider using proper tension and sectioning, large box braids protect natural hair. Avoid overly tight braids, care for your scalp, and follow recommended aftercare to reduce breakage risk.
With proper aftercare, large box braids typically last six to eight weeks. Regular moisturizing, gentle cleansing of the scalp, and nightly protection help maintain neatness and extend the style's lifespan.
Yes — you can swim and exercise with large box braids. Rinse and cleanse your scalp after swimming, wear a swim cap when possible, and wrap braids at night. Use light oils to seal edges and prevent frizz.
Weekly upkeep includes gently cleansing the scalp with diluted shampoo or a cleansing spray, lightly moisturizing braids and scalp, and wrapping hair at night with a satin scarf to reduce frizz and preserve style.
You can restyle braids into ponytails, buns or updos without issue. Coloring synthetic hair after installation isn't recommended; choose colored synthetic hair prior to installation for best results and longevity.
